When it comes to achieving beautiful, healthy hair, there’s one crucial area you might be overlooking — your scalp.
Your scalp is skin, just like the rest of your body, and it needs regular care to stay healthy. An unbalanced scalp can lead to hair that feels dry, brittle, limp, or even cause thinning and hair loss.
Common signs your scalp might need some TLC:
- Dryness, flaking, or itchiness
- Excess oiliness
- Dull, lifeless hair
- Increased hair shedding
How to show your scalp some love:
- Cleanse gently but regularly. TOP TIP- Using a shampoo that has no sulphates is more gentle on the scalp, if you leave it a long time in between washes you can get a build up and dirt on the scalp leading to an unhappy scalp, everyone is different but I would say at least every 3-4 days is the maximum you should leave in between washes (dry shampoo DOES NOT count!)
- Avoid heavy product buildup. TOP TIP- Beware of too much product near the scalp, lots of hairspray and dry shampoo can leave the scalp clogged and sad.
- Treat your scalp to occasional exfoliation. TOP TIP- Its great from time to time and very good to exfoliate the scalp, doing and exfoliation removes dead skin cells that are a little too stubborn for shampoo alone, it encourages healthy hair growth and general scalp health. You can buy scalp exfoliators to do at home or get higher strength ones applied at the salon.
- Moisturise with light, nourishing oils or serums. TOP TIP- Moisturising with an oil is a great treat for the scalp. I would advise to apply at least an hour before shampooing or even better if you can sleep in the oil and shampoo off the excess in the morning.
